Students who have applied to University

Students who have applied to University..... You need to submit your community service hours ASAP!!!!!
Universities will view you as NOT GRADUATING!!!!!! if you do not have them in!

Once you have submitted your hours to the main office, please go to Mrs. Dafoe and she will resubmit your information! If you do not go and request for your new information to be submitted, then universities will not have your updated information until mid February!

This is your responsibility as a student!!!!!!

ALERT for students applying to COLLEGE!!!!!!

Students who are applying to college OR have already applied:
Ontario Colleges has had a "glitch" in their system. When applying, one of the screens asks if you are going to be graduating this year? Your answer should be YES, however, the program will not allow you to choose yes, NO is already checked.
Ontario Colleges is attempting to correct the glitch in the system. They are hoping it will be corrected by Wednesday, Dec 21st.
If you have already applied, you will need to go back into your account and click YES, once the "glitch" is corrected.
This is your responsibility as a student!!!!!!!

Lincoln M. Alexander Award 2010 Recognizing young Ontarians who have demonstrated exemplary leadership in contributing to the elimination of racial discrimination. Deadline May 31, 2012

James Bartleman Aboriginal Youth Creative Writing Award Will recognize up to six (6) Aboriginal youth for their creative writing talent. Deadline May 31, 2012

Robert White Social Justice Award - applications by May 16th, 2012 - Awarded annually to graduating students in Grey-Bruce who have demonstrated an active involvement in the promotion of community and social justice awareness. (click on the programs link for an application). Due the end of May each year.

Day of Mourning Award - Designed to honour students who have been involved in activities with an emphasis on environment and health and safety. Successful applicants will be required to prepare and deliver a 500 word speech on health and safety of young workers. (click on the programs link for an application). Due March 19, 2012.

Community Living Meaford Scholarship - For residents of Meaford and Blue Mountain - Student should be enrolled in a Developmental Services Worker Program or Social Service or Social Science College program for the following school year. Visit the guidance office for more information and an application. Due April 30, 2012.

J.Irvine Brown Continuing Education Award- Nomination deadline is May 15th, 2012. This award is for students residing in the Owen Sound area to Saugeen Shores area. Student who are enrolled in a Developmental Service Worker College Program or Social Service Program will be given first consideration. Write a letter indicating your academic achievement and involvement in school/community activities, along with a commitment to supporting people developmental needs. Then, deliver this to the front office (Helen) at 769 4th Ave. East, Community Living.



www.adm,utoronto.ca -University of Toronto National Book Award and Scholarship for study beginning in September of 2012. Deadline to apply is October 4th, 2011. Based on academic performance, original and creative thought and extra-curricular achievement.The value of the award is determined by financial circumstances. Terry Fox Humanitarian Award
Value: $7000 per year to cover the costs of post secondary education. Selection is based on citizenship, courage in overcoming obstacles, involvement in humanitarian service, particiaption in sport and community service.

www.uoguelph.ca/president/scholars/ University of Guelph: National Scholarship Program: offers 12 scholarships valued at $32,000 each and includes a research assistantship position and mentorship by a professor. Minimum 90% average and who have made significant contributions to their schools and their communities and demonstrate the potential to become leaders in society. ( 2 Lincoln Alexander Scholarships and 2 Pamela Wallin Scholarships) . Deadline is January 25, 2012- application form, letter, biographical listing of leadership, 2 letters of reference, interview.

The University of Western Ontario National Scholarship Program - WHSS can nominate up to 4 qualified candidates. The deadline to express interest in being nominated is January 14, 2012 to Mrs. Wilkins in the guidance office.

BBPA Harry Jerome Awards - to support African Canadians who are persuing entrepreneurship, business, professional excellence, higher education and economic empowerment. Deadline for nominations is January 7, 2012.

University of Waterloo National Scholarships The University of Waterloo is offering 13 prestigious National Scholarships to exceptional students entering their first year in the faculty of Mathematics. The value of the awards ranges from $12,000 to $25,000 over 4 years. Students must complete an application which can be downloaded from the university's website at www.math.uwaterloo.ca/scholarships. Metis Student Awards: The Metis Scholarship and Bursary Program offers financial assistance to Metis students pursuing post-secondary education. Horatio Alger Ontario Scholarship Program - Ideal candiate has overcome adversity, financial need, good academic record, going to college or university, and a desire to contribute to society. The deadline to apply is October 31st, 2012.

Top 20 Under 20 National Award and Mentoring Program: Applications due Jan 23, 2012
Demonstrate innovation, leadership and achievement. (ie: business, philantrhopy, charitable works, government or entrepreneurship). Matches each award recipient with current community leaders in a mentorship relationship for a full year. 5 Day Leadership Summit and monthyly conference calls with industry leaders as well.

Schulich Leader Scholarship:Students enrolled in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) at participating Canadian university. One student from the highschool is selected as the Schulich Leader Nominee. From this pool of nominees, 20 participating universities across Canada will choose one outstanding student to be their Schulich Leader, each of whom will recieve a four-year scholarship valued at $60,000 to suport their studies at that university in a STEM faculty. Online nomination forms are available.

Life After High School UNIVERSITY applications

In order for Life After High School to pay for UNIVERSITY applications, they must be submitted by DECEMBER 18th!!!!!! That's this Sunday!

For all students who are wishing to complete their applications this weekend to meet this deadline, you will need your OUAC PIN #. You may pick it up in the guidance office. You do not need an appointment!

Tomorrow is the final class workshop for Life After High School. If you missed the presentation with your own class, or you were away, please come to the library during period one, tomorrow, Friday December 16th!!!!!
